Past Exhibition: A Dog's Life & Reg Mombassa

The joint exhibition A Dog's Life: Dion Beasley & Sketches from the Studio: Reg Mombassa ran from 17th July to 23rd August 2009.

Dion, a young Indigenous artist from the Northern Territory's Tennant Creek, created a delightful series of screen prints on paper depicting the life of dogs and other animals in his community. Dion has muscular dystrophy and is profoundly deaf, yet he surmounts his challenges with the assistance of his carer, Joie Boulter. A Dog's Life highlighted the wonderful contribution artists with disabilities make to our cultural and artistic life. Further information on Dion can be obtained from his website: www.cheekydogs.com.au
Sketches from the Studio included a selection of Reg's sketches, framed works, and t-shirts. By including his notebook sketches, the exhibition provided a unique opportunity to view the initial stages of Reg's artistic process through to framed work, and the application of his design in commercial merchandise. The art was cheeky, sometimes challenging, but always full of fun. If you would like to find out more about Reg's work, please view his website: www.regmombassa.com.
